Microsoft lands Xbox World Cup Football deal

BLURB

Microsoft has managed to get the rights to call the Xbox the official console of the World Cup Football 2006 championships. The deal inked with Fifa will result in major advertising of the Xbox brand over the period of the tournament as well as a tie-in with Electronic Arts to host a virtual online World Cup. Using EA's Fifa Soccer 2005 an online tourney, via Xbox Live of course, will take place where players can win loads of stuff and take part in a virtual version of the World Cup going on at the same time. This is a massive deal for the Xbox brand as literally hundreds of millions of people watch World Cup football. What this also points out to me is that Microsoft still plan to have Xbox as its major console in 2006, there is no mention of Xbox 2 here and the EA tie-in is happening on Xbox. So, my bet is that this will be the last great stand of Xbox before the Xbox 2 is rolled out at the end of the 2006. Who agrees? Thanks to Gamespot and RedAssedBaboon for the heads-up

Talk about cash cow 1 and cash cow 2. Ugh! Get off me MSN and XBox! lol

I guess its better to have a guest post something (though it would be nice if they signed up) than to not have anyone post at all :-P
