Default Virus Protection

Whats the best program for scanning and protecting a computer against a virus? Please help me with this. It would be great if it was free, and if not free then nice if it was cheap. Thank you for your help.

In my opinion...

Norton is the best. However, Norton does cost $$$. McAfee is second best, but that also cost $$$.

As for free virus scanners? I don't really know. :(

A couple of days ago I was just in the habit of checking out some downloads. I happened to see a free one "AVG Anti-Virus", I decided I would put it on my computer to see what it would do (I hadn't placed ANY virus protection on my computer for almost a year! I'm really asking for it!) And low and behold FIFTEEN VIRUSES were found! NOT GOOD! And I wondered why my computer wasn't running smoothly! STUPID! And i'm an A+ certified person? wow? that was stupid! SO - I RECOMMENED "AVG Anti-Virus" It's got FREE updates and that's no lie. When you download you will get all of the previous updates.

Good Luck!

hmm... i dont use antivirus, the most i use is symantec's free virus scan.

btw i dont mean to make you feel bad, but A+ Certification doesnt mean shit, it just means that you're computer literate...

It could just be my paranoia for downloading virus scan programs that i dont fully trust, but are you so sure that virus scan didnt put any of the viruses on your computer? or it could just be some guy's way to h4x0r your computer.

Oh yeah and Jarod, you say it's made by Germans? Germans are one of few breeds which have natural born programmers... must be good! :-D

Well, i worked very hard to get my A+ Certification, so i see it as a pretty good accompishment. ANyway, I'm sure tha viruses were on my computer and that they were removed, because i knew some of the one's that were on their, and they WERE listed on the search. Not only that, but my computer had much better performance when I started it back up again. Anayway, i have a very good firewall that protects me from ouside attacks, EXE, and "Gateway" entry viruses, such as hackers using your computer.

8)

Yeah nothing wrong with "AVG Anti-Virus". Its a great program and it is usually highly recommended on Tech TV for its $0 cost and good virus detection. Like Tommy though, I prefer Norton Anti-Virus =P (2k4)
