Default Advertisments ???

Hello,

Okay, I have been thinking about putting an ad or two on the site. However, I was thinking I could make it GUEST only ads (members are ad-free).

There are three places I have thought of for putting an ad:
A) Normal banner size above header (the top of page).
B) Normal banner size under footer (the bottom of page).
C) A vertical banner on the bottom of the left side.

Then I have two choices in regards to advertisers:
A) Google AdSense ($$$ per user who clicks on ad)
B) Random advertiser who pays monthly fee.

Or of course I could just have nothing. Basically, no matter what, it will be ad-free for members.

I would like your honest opinion on this.

Do a footer banner :P

I would guess you would make more from the monthly fee thing myself but thats up to you :P Do whichever does best :)

I don't mind banners, so long as I can navigate like normal, i'm happy hehe

For the mostpart i agree with Warklan, but youd probably have more of a chance if the banner were at the top of the page, and it BETTER BE A BANNER, because if for some reason i ever have to visit the site as a guest and i see a pop-up, ill nuke your server. lol j/k

Well, there is no way I would put a popup on this site. (except for popups of "you have a new PM" etc.)

If the banner is on the bottom it is almost a sure thing that I will make more from monthly banner because google is pay per click and I don't know how many people would click it.

Novas idea will probably bring in the most $$$, but I am not sure if I want to put a banner on top because it would change the design a little.

What I would like to do is setup google on the bottom left side (vertical) for about a week, and see how that does.

i think monthly or pay-per-impression is the way to go... monthly would be unlimited impressions at a fixed price per month and pay-per-impression, of course, says you will pay a fixed price for a fixed number of impressions... say $10 for 1,000 impressions

(impressions are not clicks, but how many times a banner is on a page)

i also think you should make room to put a banner up top above the header lines towards the right...

ooh yeah that's perfect! pay per impression is the way to be! then you can put one on the bottom where nobody sees it but it gets an "impression".

i wonder how banner clicking contests go... I remember a friend who tried to make money by putting a banner on a stupid webpage. i clicked on it a bunch.

oh yeah and about popups. popups are fine with me, my browser pwns popups. Mozilla kills em, if you use IE (or Opera, i think), use meaya popup ad filter. http://www.meaya.com it works really well too. i used it before, it lets a few popups slide though, also kazaalite used to have popups, of which those would slip through.

Almost-Good, that was also my idea. :) However, I don't have a clue how to accomplish that. How could I put an AD in a image file?

If you know a way I could do this (and be able to rotate the ads) would you please consider doing it? :)

I think I could just try the whole "impressions" thing as that could be like one week of ADs at a time.

Hrmm, well, my browser blocks popups also. However, I dislike sites that have popups (even if I dont see them). I never liked them before, and thus think the webmasters don't care about their visitors (where as I do). Plus, I doubt everyone has them blocked.

*Waits for Almost-Good's reply*
