You misunderstood my statement, I think.
First of all, I said How High was under that category, not Barbershop.
Second, I used the term as an example of a marketing ploy, not an opinion. In the eyes of the film studio, what makes money and what sells is key. They find patterns and formulas and reproduce films. If there are 2-3 good films at out at one time that all are doing well, other studios are going to copy. THOSE COPIES are where "I'm Black, so I must be funny" occurs. As I said, however, "Black" and "funny" can be replaced by almost any other words to fit a stereotype/pattern. These films DO exist whether you like it or not. I don't like it, but it happens. It's how big executives make their fortunes.
