Default What is Wine?

I have heard all this talk about Wine for linux. What is it exactly?

It is basically a thing to provide better compatibility with windows programs and the linux OS?

Wine, is a windows emulator. in my experiance its buggy at best.
it makes it to where you can 'run' 'windows' programs on a linux box.

yeah, and it works pretty damn well for a buggy emulator.

doesnt work well with programs that are programmed like shit (ie Trillian Instant Messenger, Thank you Cerulean for a fine pile of shit! i use it tho :( )

anyway supposedly running games under Wine can be faster than running them through Windows! find some benchmark results somewhere.

Nope Lindows is an evil corporation like Microsoft and has come to learn what greed is. I wanted to get it a good while ago until I found it wasn't free and since i'm on 56k downloading would take forever (not saying I break the law or anything  )...so I didn't :(
