I'll bet you whoever bought it was so excited they overlooked the "box" part.

A similar con was done back when PS2's were brand new before x-mas, but there was a shortage, so some guy went on ebay with a picture of a ps2 box. The description ONLY described the box, and never mentioned the actual console, but so many people wanted a PS2, that they bidded on it. In the end, the PS2 box sold for 600-somthing dollars or somthing like that.
