Procedure used (not the only one I believe):

The laptop has to be taken completely to pieces. I mean everything as the 24C164 device is on the underside of the main board. It is just above the PLCC bios chip.

I removed this device from the board and luckily have access to an IC programmer. The device was filled with FF's which effectively blanks the device.

But the next step is more important and is where I went wrong the first time. You have to then clear the CMOS. On the same board is a small PCB mounted cell. Remove the +ve leg and leave for a short while and then reconnect it.

Put everything back together and you should be away. It worked for me anyway.

I have bought Inspiron 7000 yesterday with non functional HDD, and I need go to BIOS. BIOS pass is of course unknown...

Currently, I disassembled the notebook and located 24C164.

Now I have some questions....

1) which method is best to remove 24C164? (unfortunately I haven't the hot-air, only small soldering iron...)

2) next step - clearing the CMOS... Did anyone know if it's enough to remove the battery for example for one hour? I dont understand to the explanation written by expert. I don't know which "PCB mounted cell" he mentioned... Is this cell marked with some digits or letters?

All she has to do is call Dell. If she is rightful owner they will be able to reset it for her.

Got The Issue Again ( but a little diffrent IS NOT CRACKABLE! )

I need to reset cmos totally without tearing this computer all the way apart and im a computer repair services but never seen it this FREAKIN BADD IN MY LIFE OUTCHY!

Comes On Ask's For Password ( no trying to get into cmos just booting computer up..... anyone else have this screwed up issue? )
