i'm quite sure you do need a license.

To run an ISP you probably have to keep yourself protected from lawsuits and such, so be sure you reserve rights to cancel installations and stuff like that.

you'd need to purchase a line, from one of the companies that supplies them to ISP's. I know of one company for the area in which I live...

you will need some $$$ to start up, as with any business.

i think that basically you become a reseller of bandwidth, just as there are resellers of products that you buy from the store.

you should probably do some googling.

It means running an Internet Service Provider service. AOL, Earthlink, Comcast are all examples of (very large) ISPs.

That is correct, you will need a business license.

I suggest that you do not run an ISP from your home, as that will be expensive. You will have to have all the wires ran directly to your home. Also, you will be in a bad situation if your business ever grows (where will your staff go?).

What you may be looking for is an ISP reseller. This is basically where you pay a small fee for all the hardware and tech support, then you get the clients and charge whatever amount you want.

I quickly did a google search (in other words, they may be con-artists, they may be great, use your own head) and came upon this website:

When i first read this, i was thinking that sparks wanted an ISP to have his own really fast internet connection (broadband foo!) and sell bandwidth to customers in order to pay for the high costs.

One thing to consider....

People are DIALING into your connection. That means you need plenty of extra phone-lines for this to work out.

Whaa? dialup sucks. the world needs to replace dialup. why wont they upgrade their systems faster? i still dont have the ability to get cable!

i always thought of the possibility of getting a hella fast dconnection, sharing it with your neighbors (by wifi network or something)...
