Default FileZilla FTP Client

FileZilla FTP Client [Software]

If you are having your web-site hosted by someone else, chances are you would be either using a web-based file-manager or an FTP account. FTP has a lot of advantages over web-based file managers. This review will be on a good, and freely available FTP program I have stumbled upon; Filezilla. The best feature of Filezilla, to me, is that it is a free and open-source software. The features can rival or even surpass most ftp clients being sold as commercial products.

If you are on a slow Internet connection, as I am, you would love the reliable auto-resume feature of Filezilla. Both uploads and downloads can be automatically resumed when you get disconnected from the network.

Another great feature of Filezilla is that you could drag and drop items from any folder in your PC into the ftp folder that was assigned to you. If the drag-and-drop feature don't suite your fancy, the built-in file manager works just fine. And yes, you could see the standard windows icons for your files within it.

People with multiple ftp accounts or those who need to access a lot of ftp folders from different servers will benefit being able to save all those addresses, user name and passwords as well.

My only quarrel about this file is the documentation. The helpfiles are not as extensive as I expected, not all features are explained. But then again, most free software (and some commercial ones) have poor helpfiles. You need to explore this program a bit to get used to it, but the learning curve is very fast for this program and it is very easy to use as well.

If you are looking for and free FTP client to work with most FTP sites such as pcplayground, then I recommend Filezilla.

You can download the full version of Filezilla at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla
